Technology is always changing in the world today. For this blog post my class had to read an article about technology. A quote that really stood out to me was that, “Technology is opening new doors for students and teachers alike and transforming the world outside the school, but classrooms today are still teacher-centered, low level fact information-based, and low tech delivered to students who respond to assignments with equally low tech tools.” As a result, schools are failing to change with the times. In order for students to be engaged in the classroom, the technology should be up to date. Technology is being incorporated in a child’s life at a younger age now than ever before. It’s been proven that the more activity you involve in your teaching the more your students will retain. So loose the overheads and move in the smart boards. If as a teacher you are going to expect your students to be up to date with the latest technology, you yourself must be as well. The times have changed and students don’t learn as they did many years ago. Technology is present everywhere in our daily lives and is shaping the way we live our lives.

If we expect our students to make projects and present them on power point, or make a video about something, it's important that we know how to do it too...especially if they're going to ask us questions!
ReplyDeleteI like how you pointed out that teachers have to be up to date on the latest technology if they expect the students to use it. I think that it was also good that you said something about how the schools are not changing with the times. I think that was a big idea from the article and as future teachers, it will be part of our job to change that.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it's important for teachers to stay up to date with technology. But at the same time, not all teachers will have the capacity to provide a smart board for their class. One thing we talked about in class was how technology is not always electronic, but technology can be found all around us. I think something that I am challenged to do is find new creative ways of teaching things that doesn't always include the latest technology but would still be intriguing to the students.
ReplyDeleteI like that you tell people to "lose the overhead." It's so true that technology in classrooms is behind the times. There is so much available to us as teachers and it is aggravating when I see a teacher (some here at cedarville), using an overhead when there are projectors in every room. We have got to be up to date or nothing in our education system will change.
